Ecommerce Profit Calculator for Marketplace Sellers

Only the price, product cost and commission are needed. Leave the rest empty to ignore them. Enter 0 for GST on fees if you claim it back as input credit. TCS and income tax are not included.

Know your real profit per order

The price on the listing is not what you keep. Marketplaces take a commission, a fixed or closing fee, a shipping or fulfilment charge and a payment fee, and then charge GST on those fees. Add advertising, packaging and returns, and a product that looks profitable can lose money. This calculator takes every one of those costs and shows your profit per order.

How the calculation works

Sales before GST = selling price ÷ (1 + product GST%). Fees = commission + fixed fee + shipping + payment fee. GST on fees = fees × the GST rate on fees. Profit if delivered = sales before GST − product cost − packaging − ads − fees − GST on fees.

Returns are averaged in: expected loss = return rate × (profit if delivered + the cost of one return). The break-even price is the selling price at which profit per order is zero.

Worked example

A product sells for ₹999 with 12% GST and costs ₹400. The platform takes 10% commission on the price including GST, a ₹20 fixed fee, ₹70 shipping and a 2% payment fee, with 18% GST on those fees. Packaging is ₹15, and 10% of orders come back at ₹60 each.

Sales before GST are ₹891.96. Fees come to ₹209.88 and GST on the fees is ₹37.78, so profit on a delivered order is ₹229.31. After the expected loss from returns of ₹28.93, profit per order is ₹200.38, a margin of 22.5% on sales before GST. The break-even price is about ₹702.64.

Frequently asked questions

Are these the exact fees of Amazon, Flipkart or Meesho?

No. Fee structures vary by category, price band and weight, and change often, so this tool asks you to enter the numbers from your seller dashboard. That way it stays correct for any marketplace.

Should I enter 18% GST on fees?

Marketplace fees normally carry 18% GST. If you are GST-registered and claim that tax back as input credit, enter 0, because it is not a real cost to you.

Which price do I enter?

The price the customer sees and pays, including GST. The tool removes the GST using the rate you enter for the product.

How do returns affect profit?

A returned order earns nothing and often costs you shipping both ways. The calculator spreads that loss over all orders using the return rate and cost you enter.

What is not included?

Income tax, TCS and TDS deducted by the platform, storage fees and the cost of unsold stock are not included. Add them to your costs if you want them counted.
