GST Calculator – Add or Remove GST (India)

What is GST?

GST (Goods and Services Tax) is the indirect tax charged on most goods and services in India. This calculator adds GST to a price or removes it from a GST-inclusive price, and shows the CGST and SGST split for intra-state sales. The rate depends on the item, so check the applicable rate for your product or service.

Formula

Add GST: Final price = Base price × (1 + GST% ÷ 100). Remove GST: Base price = Final price ÷ (1 + GST% ÷ 100). For intra-state supply, CGST and SGST are each half of the GST amount; inter-state sales use IGST instead.

Worked example

Base price ₹1,000 at 18% GST: GST is ₹180 (₹90 CGST + ₹90 SGST) and the final price is ₹1,180. In reverse, from ₹1,180 inclusive of 18% GST, the base price is 1,180 ÷ 1.18 = ₹1,000.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate GST from a GST-inclusive price?

Divide the inclusive price by (1 + rate ÷ 100) to get the base price, then subtract it from the inclusive price to get the GST amount.

What is the difference between CGST, SGST and IGST?

CGST and SGST are the central and state shares charged on sales within a state. IGST is charged on sales between states.

What GST rate should I use?

It depends on the goods or services. Check the current GST rate schedule or ask your accountant.

Is this a substitute for a GST invoice?

No. The calculator is a convenience for estimates, not a tax document.
