JSON Minifier – Remove Whitespace and Reduce Size
Only whitespace outside strings is removed. Numbers, key order, duplicate keys and string contents are left exactly as you wrote them.
What is JSON minification?
Minifying JSON means removing the spaces, tabs and line breaks that make it easy to read but that a program does not need. The data stays the same and the file gets smaller, which helps when you send JSON over a network, store it in a database column or embed it in a URL or a config value.
How to use it
- Paste your JSON.
- Press Minify. If the JSON is invalid you will see the problem instead, so you never copy a broken result.
- Check the bytes saved and copy the output.
Example
This JSON:
{
"name": "Asha Rao",
"skills": [ "js", "python" ]
}
becomes:
{"name":"Asha Rao","skills":["js","python"]}
Frequently asked questions
Does minifying change my data?
No. Only whitespace outside strings is removed. Spaces inside a string value stay, and numbers, key order and duplicate keys are not touched.
How much smaller will it get?
It depends on how much indentation the original had. Deeply indented, pretty-printed JSON often shrinks by a quarter or more. Already compact JSON saves little.
Is minified JSON the same as compressed JSON?
No. Minifying removes whitespace. Compression such as gzip or Brotli works on top of it, and your web server usually does that for you.
How do I make it readable again?
Use the JSON Formatter, which adds indentation and line breaks.
Is my JSON uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser.
