SIP Calculator – Mutual Fund Returns

What is SIP?

A SIP (Systematic Investment Plan) lets you invest a fixed amount in a mutual fund at regular intervals, usually monthly. This calculator estimates the future value of your SIP based on an assumed annual return. Actual returns are market-linked and not guaranteed.

Formula

Future value = P × [((1 + i)n − 1) ÷ i] × (1 + i), where P is the monthly amount, i is the monthly rate (annual rate ÷ 12) and n is the number of months.

Worked example

You invest ₹10,000 per month for 10 years at an assumed 12% per year. Total invested is ₹12,00,000. If each instalment is invested at the start of the month the value is about ₹23,23,391, and if at the end of the month about ₹23,00,387. The gain is roughly ₹11 lakh.

Frequently asked questions

Are SIP returns guaranteed?

No. Mutual fund returns depend on markets. The calculator shows a projection based on the return you enter.

What return should I assume?

Use a conservative figure and compare a few scenarios. Look at long-term returns of your fund and benchmark, not a single good year.

Is the result before or after tax?

The calculator shows a pre-tax estimate. Taxes on gains depend on the fund type and holding period.

Is SIP better than a lump sum?

Neither is always better. SIPs spread your entry over time and build a habit, while a lump sum puts money to work immediately.
