SWP Calculator – Systematic Withdrawal Plan

What is SWP?

A Systematic Withdrawal Plan (SWP) lets you withdraw a fixed amount regularly from a mutual fund investment while the rest stays invested. People use it to create a monthly income, for example in retirement. This calculator projects how your balance changes under a constant assumed return.

Formula

Each month: Balance = Balance × (1 + monthly return) − Withdrawal. The calculator repeats this for every month of the plan.

Worked example

You start with ₹10,00,000, withdraw ₹8,000 per month and assume an 8% annual return for 10 years. The remaining balance after 10 years is about ₹7,56,072, while you have withdrawn ₹9,60,000 in total.

Frequently asked questions

How long will my money last?

It depends on the withdrawal, the starting corpus and the return. If withdrawals exceed returns, the balance falls over time.

What is a safe withdrawal rate?

There is no single answer. Lower withdrawal rates last longer, and market falls early on can hurt. Test several return assumptions.

Are SWP withdrawals taxed?

Each withdrawal contains some gain, which may be taxed depending on fund type and holding period.

Is SWP the same as a dividend plan?

No. SWP is your choice of amount and date, while dividends depend on the fund's decisions.
