What this redirect checker shows

Enter a public URL to follow its HTTP redirects and inspect the response code at each step. The results show the requested address, redirect destination and response time, then identify the final URL. Use it to check common moves such as HTTP to HTTPS, an old page URL to a replacement, or a redirect loop.

How to check a URL redirect

  1. Enter the full URL, starting with http:// or https://.
  2. Select Check redirects and review the response for each hop.
  3. Confirm that the final URL is the page you intended to reach.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a 301 and 302 redirect?

A 301 indicates a permanent move; a 302 indicates a temporary move. The table also labels 303, 307 and 308 responses when they appear.

How many redirects does the checker follow?

It follows up to 10 redirects and reports if it detects a loop or reaches that limit.

Why might a website check fail?

Some hosts block automated requests, reject the HEAD method, or take too long to respond. A failed automated check does not necessarily mean the page is unavailable in a regular browser.

Does this tool check private or local network addresses?

No. It only checks public HTTP and HTTPS websites on standard ports. Local, reserved and IP-literal addresses are blocked.

Is the URL stored?

The URL is sent to ihatecalc’s Cloudflare endpoint to make the check. ihatecalc does not save the check result. See our Privacy Policy for details.
