Schema Markup Generator (JSON-LD)
Paste the code inside the <head> of the page it describes, then test it with Google's Rich Results Test. Only mark up information that is visible on the page.
What is schema markup?
Schema markup is a block of structured data, written as JSON-LD, that tells search engines exactly what a page is about: an article, a product with a price, a local shop with an address, or a trail of breadcrumbs. Search engines can use it to understand your page better and, for some types, to show extra details in the results.
How to use this generator
- Pick the schema type that matches your page.
- Fill in the fields. Only filled fields appear in the code, and the generator checks URLs and numbers for you.
- Copy the code and paste it inside the of that page, then test it in Google's Rich Results Test.
Example
A breadcrumb with two levels produces:
<script type="application/ld+json">
{
"@context": "https://schema.org",
"@type": "BreadcrumbList",
"itemListElement": [
{
"@type": "ListItem",
"position": 1,
"name": "Home",
"item": "https://example.com"
},
{
"@type": "ListItem",
"position": 2,
"name": "Blog"
}
]
}
</script>
Which type should I use?
Use Article for blog posts and news, Product for a page that sells one item, Local business for a shop or office with a physical address, Breadcrumb to describe the page's place in your site, and FAQ page only when the page really contains questions and answers. Google has limited FAQ rich results to a small set of sites, so FAQ markup is unlikely to change how your result looks, though it is still valid.
Frequently asked questions
Will schema markup improve my rankings?
Not directly. It helps search engines understand the page and can make you eligible for rich results such as star ratings or product prices, which can improve how many people click.
Can I add ratings if I do not have reviews?
No. Review and rating markup must reflect real reviews that visitors can see on the page. Made-up ratings break Google's guidelines and can lead to a manual action.
JSON-LD, Microdata or RDFa?
Google recommends JSON-LD, which sits in one block in the head and does not touch your visible HTML. That is the format this tool produces.
Why does the price field reject my value?
The price must be a plain number such as 1299 or 1299.50. The currency goes in the currency field, so leave out symbols and thousands separators.
Is my data uploaded?
No. The code is generated in your browser.
