Base64 Encoder & Decoder
About this Base64 Encoder & Decoder tool
Base64 turns binary or text data into a string made only of letters, numbers, +, / and =. It is used to embed data in JSON, URLs, emails and HTML. Base64 is an encoding, not encryption: anyone can decode it, so never use it to protect secrets.
How to use it
- Paste your text into the input box.
- Click Encode to convert to Base64, or Decode to convert back to text.
- Copy the result.
Example
Hello → SGVsbG8=
Decoding SGVsbG8= returns Hello.
Frequently asked questions
Is Base64 encryption?
No. It only changes the representation of data and can be reversed by anyone.
Why does Base64 end with = signs?
The = characters are padding that make the encoded length a multiple of four.
Why does decoding fail?
Usually the string has invalid characters, missing padding, or is URL-safe Base64 that uses - and _ instead of + and /.
