SHA-256 Hash Generator
About this SHA-256 Hash Generator tool
A hash function turns any input into a fixed-length fingerprint. SHA-256 produces a 64-character hexadecimal result. The same input always gives the same hash, and a tiny change in the input changes the hash completely. It is used to verify files, detect changes and in many security systems. Hashing is one-way: you cannot get the original text back from the hash.
How to use it
- Type or paste your text.
- Click Generate.
- Copy the SHA-256 hash.

Frequently asked questions
Can a SHA-256 hash be reversed?
No, but short or common inputs can be guessed by trying many candidates, so do not rely on plain SHA-256 to store passwords.
Should I use SHA-256 for passwords?
Not on its own. Use a slow, salted password hashing algorithm such as bcrypt, scrypt or Argon2.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. The hash is computed in your browser.
