FD Calculator – Fixed Deposit Maturity Amount
What is FD?
A Fixed Deposit (FD) pays a fixed interest rate for a fixed period. Banks usually compound FD interest quarterly, but some options pay monthly or at maturity. This calculator estimates the maturity amount for your chosen compounding.
Formula
Maturity = P × (1 + r ÷ n)n × t, where P is the deposit, r is the annual rate, n is the number of compounding periods per year and t is the number of years.
Worked example
You deposit ₹1,00,000 at 7% per year for 5 years with quarterly compounding. Maturity is about ₹1,41,478, which is interest of about ₹41,478.
Frequently asked questions
Is FD interest taxable?
Interest is generally taxable as per your income tax slab, and banks may deduct TDS above certain limits. Check current rules.
Which compounding is best?
More frequent compounding gives a slightly higher maturity amount for the same rate.
Can I break an FD early?
Often yes, but banks usually charge a penalty and may reduce the interest rate.
Is my FD safe?
Bank deposits in India are covered by deposit insurance up to a limit. Check the current limit with DICGC.
