Gold SIP Calculator – Monthly Gold Investment Returns
The calculator assumes gold prices grow steadily at the rate you enter and that you buy at the start of each month. Real prices move up and down.
What is a gold SIP?
A gold SIP is a habit of buying a fixed amount of gold every month instead of buying a large amount at once. People use digital gold apps, gold ETFs bought through a demat account, or gold mutual funds that accept monthly SIPs. Because you buy at different prices over time, the average cost smooths out. This calculator shows what your SIP could be worth and, if you enter today's price, how many grams you could accumulate.
How the calculation works
Each month your investment, after any charges you enter, buys gold at that month's price. Prices are assumed to grow by the yearly rate you enter, spread evenly across the months. The estimated value is the grams you hold multiplied by the final price, which equals the future value of the SIP at that growth rate. The price per gram you enter only affects the gram figures, not the value.
Worked example
You invest ₹5,000 a month for 10 years and assume gold prices rise 8% a year, starting from a round price of ₹10,000 per gram (an example price, not today's rate). You invest ₹6,00,000 in total. The estimated value is about ₹9,20,828, which is about 41.5 grams bought at an average of about ₹14,463 per gram, with the price at the end about ₹22,196 per gram.
If every purchase carries a 3% charge, such as GST on digital gold, the same SIP ends near ₹8,93,204, which shows how much charges matter.
Frequently asked questions
How can I start a gold SIP in India?
The usual routes are digital gold apps with a recurring purchase, gold ETFs through a demat account, and gold mutual funds that offer SIPs. Costs differ: digital gold usually carries 3% GST and a buy-sell spread, ETFs have an expense ratio and brokerage, and gold funds have their own expense ratio.
What growth rate should I enter?
Gold does not grow in a straight line. It has risen strongly in some periods and gone flat or fallen in others. Try a low figure, zero and a negative one as well, not just a hopeful number.
Are gains taxed?
Yes, gains are generally taxable, and the rules depend on the instrument and how long you hold it. Check the current rules before you decide.
Why enter today's price per gram?
Only to show grams, average buying price and the price at the end. The estimated rupee value does not depend on it.
Is a gold SIP better than an equity SIP?
They do different jobs. Many investors hold a small share in gold to diversify, but neither is guaranteed to do better. Compare with the SIP calculator using different return assumptions.
